The word ultimatum is missused in your post. It was really no ultimatum at all. If TEST wanted to survive and thrive they had to leave. Short Wagon made sure of that with hes excellent diplo-skills and "demands".
So they did not get kicked, pushed or slapped out.. they left to preserve their dignity, pride and way of "life".
Shortie made a gamble (++ber redicilous one even) and lost... and in that process he accidently the whole of HBC.
TEST is having fun, cudos to them for it (and for boodas balls).
HBC (whats left of us) clings to the edge and prepares to laugh all the way down when the "blob" comes for us.
N3/PL and even Gewns have fun these days 
So perhaps you should stop trying so hard to make this into something other than it really is, fun for all.
